Importing Heavy Equipment for the Middle-Size Mining Industry

Our member LOGPAR, representing Chile, has successfully conducted a new project ! The project involves importing equipment from China for the middle-size mining industry.

In 2024, LOGPAR initially shipped smaller models using flat racks, removing the front tires to optimize space.

Here is what this project was about :

✅Scope of Shipment

A total of four mining trucks, that also included an excavator (main body on crawlers and accessories), were imported from China and transported via San Antonio to the job site in the Andes.

Dimensions of the trucks: 10.35 x 4.80 x 4.35 m / 51,000 kgs
Dimensions of the main body of the excavator: 11.25 x 3.50 x 3.80 / 75,000 kgs

✅Challenges & Solutions

The latest models are larger and, due to their dimensions and weight, could not be shipped in the same way. Instead, they were transported via RoRo (Roll-on/Roll-off) to San Antonio.

✅Logistics & Transportation

• Smooth Loading Process: The loading operation was carried out efficiently and successfully.

• Final Delivery: The equipment was transported to the mine site using heavy-duty low-bed trailers.

• Police Escort: Due to oversize cargo (OOG), a coordinated police escort was required.

• Nighttime Convoy Movement: In urban areas, OOG cargo can only be transported at night. Therefore, the convoy had to depart San Antonio during nighttime hours.

• Daytime Transport: Once outside urban zones, the convoy continued during daylight hours to the mine site.

✅Final Destination

The mine site is located approximately 300 km north of Santiago, in the Andes Mountains.

This successful operation ensured the safe and efficient delivery of critical mining equipment while complying with local transport regulations.
